Global Citizen NOW Johannesburg Commitments Announced

Michael Sheldrick

This past week in Johannesburg reminded the world that it is still possible to choose to work together to improve people’s lives.

At hashtagGlobalCitizen NOW: Johannesburg, partners from across sectors stepped forward with real commitments — enough to bring electricity to 17.5 million homes and deliver 26.8 gigawatts of renewable energy across Africa by 2030.

To each of our partners:

Harith General Partners, Octopus Energy, CrossBoundary Energy, ENERTRAG, Scatec ASA, Sun King, and Transenergy Group, Genesis Energy, Energea, Globeleq, and many others
Thank You.

Your leadership made this possible.

The cards highlight some of the companies driving this momentum, each committing capital, technology, and long-term vision to expand clean, reliable power across the continent.

In 2026, our focus is simple:
turn these commitments into real-world impact — more connections, more jobs, more clean energy, more opportunity.

As President Ramaphosa said, “something new always comes out of Africa.”
This week, all of you were part of that something new.

Thank you. We’re just getting started.
